Our Mission Statement
To Educate, Represent, and Empower Low-Income Members of the Prince George’s County Community Regarding Civil Legal Matters.
Our History
Founded in 1985 as The Law Foundation of Prince George’s County, Inc., we began as a lawyer-referral organization matching low income clients with lawyers who would provide free legal advice. In 1995, we expanded our method of service by opening our first brief legal clinic in the courthouse in Upper Marlboro. In 2006, we renamed ourselves Community Legal Services of Prince George’s County, Inc. (CLS). Currently, CLS operates five brief legal advice clinics in Prince George’s County.
Our Growth
CLS has completed our 37th year of service to Prince George’s County. During the past few years economic challenges increased the demand for our services. To meet the increased demand, CLS reached out to new partners for economic support of our services. As the poor economy continued, even our funders began to feel the economic burden to help us meet our mission. CLS is proud to say that by shifting our priorities to meet the most immediate legal needs of our community and diversifying our funding, CLS has maintained a strong financial position and has continued to assist residents of Prince George’s county.
